It’s about time to get another batch of fire cider going. It will be ready around the first of October, just in time for the cold and flu season. Last year I never found fresh Horseradish and had to use jarred so this year I grew my own. It will be perfect🙂Edit: cover all ingredients in ACV and let sit on the counter for 6-8 wks, strain, add 1/2 c of honey, mix and take 2 tbs each day. I do not refrigerate it. Recipe in the comments

Warm up with this cozy homemade Hot Apple Cider, perfect for chilly autumn days and the cold & flu season.

Ingredients

  • 2 liters (8 cups) apple cider or natural apple juice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4–5 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1–2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar (optional, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Pour the apple cider into a large pot.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, ginger, and orange slices.
  3. Heat over medium-low heat until steaming, but do not let it boil.
  4. Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 20–30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  5. Strain out the spices and orange slices.
  6. Sweeten with honey or brown sugar if desired, then serve warm.

Tips

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth and flavor.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
  • This comforting drink may help you stay warm and hydrated during cold weather, but it is not a treatment or prevention for colds or the flu.
